Karel Appel’s bright, expressionistic paintings helped set the aesthetic template for the mid-20th-century CoBrA group, which included Christian Dotremont, Asger Jorn, and Joseph Noiret. Inspired by folk and children’s art, the work of Jean Dubuffet, and the earlier modernist experiments of Joan Miró and Paul Klee, Appel used vivid primary colors and violent brushwork in his thickly impastoed canvases. Their suggestive compositions often resemble wildly abstracted figures. Appel studied at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam, and his work has been exhibited in New York, Paris, Berlin, Brussels, Amsterdam, Los Angeles, Vienna, Rome, and Zürich. Appel’s pieces have sold for up to seven figures at auction and belong in the collections of the Albertina, the Astrup Fearnley Museet, Moderna Museet, the Centre Pompidou, the Museum of Modern Art, the Stedelijk Museum, and the Guggenheim Museum.

In 1550 Ivan created Russia’s first full-time military force, the 16th-century Muscovite cavalry. Mounted archery remained an effective tactical system in open country until the introduction of firearms. Signed Lanceray in Cyrillic script with Chopin foundry mark.

Set of 2 Large Rare Antique Wooden Hand Carved Egyptian Two-Headed Ram Amun-Ra Deity Sculptures

These Two Unique Wooden Hand Carved Egyptian Two-Headed Ram Amun-Ra Deity Sculptures are stunning

They look like they have been used outside as decor so they have aged and weathered but it gives them great look

Each features double ram heads on each side – parts of them were painted at one point but that has worn

One is split in a section and missing sections on two of its four feet

A foot is loose on one

Overall these two pieces are show stoppers in person

There are metal and plastic feet on the bottom of each – there are holes carved out on the bottom – not sure of purpose but from being outside some dirt in the holes

They each measure ~25″ long x ~15.5″ tall x ~5.25″ wide

They are large and heavy
