Utilizing thick planks and timbers of old growth solid oak, the artisans formed the sturdy top from four planks, so thick a reinforcing apron is not necessary which allows for maximum knee clearance. The top is held aloft by two artfully contoured side supports shaped in an urn form with a diamond shaped opening which appears above the shims that hold the massive stretcher in place to create a very sturdy platform, especially when combined with the finely contoured cross pieces above and below.
