Polished Brass
Before reissuing Gaudí’s furniture, BD, together with the architect David Ferrer, faithfully reproduced some of the metalwork pieces designed by Gaudí between 1902 and 1910 for Casa Calvet and Batlló. Also those of Casa Milà, popularly known as La Pedrera.
All are engraved with Gaudí’s signature and have been in production since 1978.
Antoni Gaudí (1852 – 1926) is among the most internationally famous Spanish architects, his unorthodox approach is still considered ground-breaking to this day.
His ingenious architectural solutions saw him getting involved him with all the decorative elements of his projects, including furniture. Over the years the great admiration of many modern designers for Gaudí furniture was understood by BD, which was the first company to rescue these historical artefacts creating a handcrafted series of reproductions using the same materials, varnished solid oak, including a whole wealth of details used in the manufacture of the originals.
At BD contemporary creations have always gone hand-in-hand with those of the revered classical masters. Its re-editions of designs by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Adolf Loos, Josef Hoffmann and Giuseppe Terragni were already very well known. However, even more outstanding is the work behind the first production of the fascinating furniture created by Gaudí for some of his more iconic works.
