Majorelle know for often ornamented his pieces with gracefully-sculpted sumptuous organic natural forms, using a new vocabulary of natural motifs and flowing lines of Art Nouveau, Majorelle’s furniture merged old and new in a tantalizing way, and this masterpiece is no exception!
Firmly rooted in the craft of fine quality woodwork, luxury furniture-making and of course exceptional design, Louis Majorelle’s furniture subtly recalled the splendors of furniture from the 1700’s, with an exquisite take on Art Nouveau design.
The sinuous natural forms of his works like those sumptuous accents, were inspired by the C-scrolls of the Louis XV era, having a gracefully shaped curvacious two piece cabinet, the lower case prominently expanding in sumptuous bombe chest form, surmounted by a simple flowing arched mantel top, over six elegantly shaped locking cupboard doors, with five original keys included, each opening a paneled door to reveal a spacious interior fitted with a single shelf, surrounding an oversized central open niche suitable for display, over three dovetailed drawers, rich hand carved floral detailing throughout, a scalloped apron is flanked by the gently curving are also deeply carved legs.
