Large Sideboard by Pier Luigi Colli for Brothers Marelli, Italy, 1940s

This sideboard is part of an important and complete set of furniture drawn by Pier Luigi Colli for Fratelli Marelli in the 1940s. Tribute to Italian historical furniture, tinged with art deco influence, in the worked forms and in the ornamental use of ‘Multiple wood species, these pieces are exceptional both in their realization and in the decorative bias. Here is a masterful room of Italian Art Deco design: this touching landing furniture has not finished moving us! Sculpted animals emerge from the footbridges and drawers of drawers, scalloped elements offer reliefs, the buttons are in largely openwork bronze, the use of wooden burl multiple different species reinforces depth and tones. The base of the furniture is overflowing and refined, which gives lightness to this richly decorated buffet. Pier Luigi Colli offers a rustic and country version of furniture, designed for country villas or hunting pavilions. This superb sideboard by Pier Luigi Colli for Fratelli Marelli is a very touching piece among the set of furniture Colli present at the workshop. It dates from the 1940s. The housing box and 3 drawers is carried by an overflowing oak base decorated with birds and plant patterns. The feet are elegant, crenellated, tapered and ended up with hooves in their lower part. The all -wood buffet is a deep and warm shade. The sideboard is in very good condition, the surface treatment is original. Brass keys, locks and ironwork are original. Inside, the layout is superb and the same finesse, composed of shelf and interior drawers. The editor’s metal label is present. Some traces of use and time are visible on the set.
